Latrodectus sp. (probably mactans).

Please no comments with "SQUISH IT!!!11one" or anything like that. She lives quite safely in front of my house and controls the pest population.

I am actively considering making an arachnid guide for the Pacific Northwest. I think this is because I like to give myself headaches.

I usually hate spiders, but the hourglass on its stomach is kind of interesting to look at.

Yep, she's a black widow of some kind (there's 5 species in the USA). The young ones tend to be pretty colorful, and as they mature the hourglass turns red.

Not as long as she's comfortable and safe outside. She's got a web, and that's her "home turf". She won't stray for from it. I do get a lot of roaming critters like false wolf spiders and harvestmen in the house, but I just shoo them out.

Cool! Iv'e seen some real yellow and black big spiders(I think garden spiders?)and they tend to stay in their web unless something happens.
